Here's a sample of courses that I teach and have taught in the past.


New York University

"Shakespeare's Theatre I." Course for graduate students focused on teaching and producing Shakespeare in school and community settings with actors of all ages.   Invited youth actors into the classroom to allow graduate students to observe teaching and directing practices at work with young actors.   The experience culminates in a day-long practical intensive where graduate students coach young people on monologues and scenes from one of Shakespeare's plays.  

"Styles of Acting and Directing II." Course for undergraduate and graduate students that explores various styles of acting and directing. Focus on 20th and 21st century lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender playwrights and plays, queer theory, play analysis for production, collaboration, and scene presentation.

"Dramatic Activities in the Elementary Classroom." Course for undergraduate and graduate students that explores drama in the elementary classroom through an examination of various age-appropriate drama and theatre experiences.  Primary focus is on drama as an experiential link between subject areas, as well as drama as an art form. 

"Applied Theatre I and II." Courses for graduate students examining various models of community-engaged theatre and drama praxis in Dublin, Ireland.

"Character Study and Motivation."   Course for undergraduate and graduate students that explores the creation of character.   Students engage in scene study, monologue creation, and movement exercises to hone acting skills.

"Student Teaching in the Elementary Classroom / Secondary Drama Classroom."   Courses for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing New York State teacher certification in Theatre, grades K-12.   Supervise student teachers using dramatic activities in integrated elementary classrooms and secondary drama classrooms.   Facilitate a weekly seminar where student teachers discuss pedagogy and methodology for teaching theatre and drama.  

"Integrating the Arts into the Early Childhood Curriculum I."   A course offered as part of the Integrated Seminar in Early Childhood Education through the Department of Teaching and Learning pre-service teacher training program in Early Childhood Education practice.   Collaborative teaching environment with one other instructor for a graduate level course focused on integrating theatre arts across the curriculum.   Special emphasis on social studies and multiculturalism in pre-school, pre-K, and kindergarten classrooms.

"Integrating the Arts into the Childhood Curriculum I." A course offered as part of the Integrated Seminar in Childhood Education through the Department of Teaching and Learning pre-service teacher training program in Childhood Education practice.   Collaborative teaching environment with seven other instructors. Responsible for teaching students how to integrate theatre arts across curriculum in 1st through 6th grade classrooms.  


Long Island University

"Speech 3 Oral Communication."   Introductory course focuses on providing a basic understanding of human communication skills and concepts.   Students learn and practice basic skills in preparing, outlining, and presenting various kinds of speeches.  

"Introduction to Performance Art."   Course offers an introduction to the concept and history of performance art with a strong focus on developing visual performance vocabulary.   Students read critical essays, attend performances, and create two original performance pieces.  


University of Massachusetts

"Play Analysis for Theatrical Production." Course for majors, focuses on reading, analyzing, and seeing plays.   Trains students to develop points of view for theatrical production through reading and analyzing texts.

"Fundamentals of Performance."   Course focuses on acting and performance techniques including voice and movement, scene work, and monologues.
